- President's Update | Fulton Chain Of Lake
President's Update Greetings! So happy our 2025 Annual Newsletter has come your way! I’m hoping you have some time to read through it and that you find it interesting and informative. The Fulton Chain of Lakes Association was founded in 1968 out of concern for the water quality of these lakes and related health concerns. Indeed, what incredible progress has been made, in 1968 this association initiated and implemented the Septic Dye Testing program at a time when septic related pollutants were visible in the lakes. This program was subsequently taken over by the Town of Webb and for 57 years this association has worked with and supported the town with this program but there’s more. For 57 years this association through the hard work, collaboration and advocacy of its’ members, of its’ board and of volunteers, have continued to conduct testing, initiated studies and coordinated projects related to the long-term protection and maintenance of the water quality of these beautiful pristine lakes. The work is not over, indeed the vigilance is never ending. Just some of the areas of concern and interest - Invasive aquatic plant species have long been a concern of the Association for their effect on water quality. During this past year the Association began review of the Aquatic Invasive Species Survey it had commissioned for the Fulton Chain and this year will be discussing specific areas of concern with the appropriate government districts and agencies. Another area of concern we share and have heard loud and clear from our membership is the issue of safety and noise nuisance regarding motor crafts on the lakes. Members of the Board have met a number of times for three years now with both Town and County officials to ask for more regular and visible patrolling during the busy hours of lake activity. As yet the patrol reports have shown no improvement. If this has been a concern of yours as well, we ask that you also reach out to your appropriate Town and County officials. Keep abreast of and interact with your association, check out our recently updated website: www.FultonChainOfLakesAssociation.org Many thanks for the diligent hard work of board member Martha DuMont who updated our website with state of the art graphics, interfaces and now the ability to accept contributions and dues. So please check it out and send us your thoughts, comments and questions. You may also find us on Meta – Facebook. If you are a member, continue with your support, if you are not currently a member hopefully you will find this newsletter inspirational enough to join. The foundation and strength of our advocacy comes from the size and diversity of our membership. We already represent large numbers from a broad representation of stakeholders including lakefront property owners, town and village homeowners, business owners and frequent family vacationers. That being the case there is greater strength from greater numbers. If you are already a member make it a goal to bring one new member our way this year. It’s easy and for just a nominal fee using our website or mail in the form you can find in this newsletter. Finally, remember our motto “Preserve and Protect”! Let us TOGETHER continue to enjoy, appreciate and RESPECT this beautiful chain of lakes. Mark Steigerwald - President

Clean, Drain and Dry – Protecting our Lakes from Aquatic Invasive Invasive species are detrimental to boating activities on the lakes. Non-native species can overtake the lake and effect boating, fishing, kayaking etc. To prevent inadvertent introduction of non-native species boats and trailers should be cleaned after they are taken out of the water. This is especially important if they have been in other lakes. Bilges should be drained. Boats, trailers and bilges should be thoroughly dried.
